EQ Across Scotland Walk for Charity

7th January 2011

Staff and partners of EQ chartered accountants in Tayside recently donated £9,100 to two charities, Cancer Research UK and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Scotland (Angus Branch). The money raised came from staff, family, friends, clients, intermediaries and the Chancellor of the Exchequer via Gift Aid!

Keith Hopkins, partner in the Forfar office, “This was a tremendous effort by a large number of staff and partners within the firm from the organising of the event, the logistics, preparation of routes and accommodation, and the coordinating of the Fund raising, we have again demonstrated that working as a team so much can be achieved. We are vary grateful to all those who gave money to these charities whether directly to ourselves or via the website, which has allowed us to make such substantial donations to these two charities.”

“We had a tremendous lot of fun and camaraderie in doing this walk”, said Ilona Whieldon, “and we had such great support from our colleagues in our offices throughout Tayside. Although there were some blisters, sore limbs and a few wrong directions taken we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Some times we took a wrong direction in order to end up at a clients premises for “refreshments”!”

Brian Robson, chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society (Angus Branch) and his wife, Anne together with Richard Cowie representing Cancer Research UK came along to our Forfar office to accept the cheques. They both said how delighted they were to receive such substantial sums and thanked EQ and the staff for their effort. They also referred to the fact that members of staff at EQ had gone out of their way to organise this event which was probably not as easy as it looked.

The walking took place in all kinds of weather from heavy rain to bright sunshine and a different team walked each day. The walk started at Glencoe Village with the touch of the Atlantic ocean and finished 9 days later at Arbroath with a touch of the North Sea.
